Café/Bar & Gallery Concept

Summary

As founder and creative director of UNION 22, I developed the complete brand identity for this innovative Café/Bar & Gallery concept in Istanbul’s Nişantaşı–Teşvikiye district. The scope of work covered every aspect of branding and design, from visual identity to environmental experience.

The work included:

  1. Brand Identity and Logo: Created the logo, tone, and visual system, drawing inspiration from classic baseball aesthetics to convey youthfulness, unity, and community spirit.

  2. Collateral and Packaging: Designed printed and digital assets, menus, promotional flyers, and branded packaging.

  3. Merchandise and Apparel: Conceptualized and produced branded apparel and merchandise, reinforcing the café’s identity beyond its walls.

  4. Strategic Partnerships: Collaborated with global brands such as Jim Beam and Fiji Water to host engaging events, expanding UNION 22’s cultural footprint.

  5. Environmental Design: Designed both interior and exterior branding, including illustrated wall art, icons, lighting, textiles (custom pillow illustrations), floor and wall finishes, menu boards, signage, awnings, and window graphics, creating a cohesive physical brand presence.



Goal

The primary goal of UNION 22 was to establish a distinctive brand identity for a hybrid Café/Bar & Gallery concept. The design direction, inspired by baseball culture, was chosen to highlight the ideas of community, creativity, and youthful energy. By ensuring consistency across environmental design, collateral, merchandise, and partnerships, the brand aimed to deliver an engaging lifestyle experience and position itself as a cultural hub for Istanbul’s creative society.

Client

UNION 22 was launched in 2015 as a unique Café/Bar & Gallery concept and quickly became a hotspot for Istanbul’s fashionable and artistic community. Known for its extraordinary events and collaborations, the venue was celebrated by the press, receiving recognition in Marie Claire Maison and TimeOut Magazine, and was named among the top ten restaurants in the city.
