(SUB)MERCER

Cocktail Lounge

Summary

(SUB)Mercer is a sophisticated nightclub and cocktail bar located beneath The Mercer Hotel. The brand needed an identity that connects to The Mercer’s timeless elegance while expressing a distinct nightlife character.

The scope of work included:

  1. Logo System: Designed the logo based on The Mercer wordmark, refined into an elegant and simple mark with strong impact. Created a versatile “SUB” treatment that supports artsy variations while maintaining brand integrity.

  2. Visual Identity: Developed a cohesive visual language including typography, color, composition rules, and application guidance to ensure consistency across environments.

  3. Illustration Suite: Created custom illustrations for digital use on web and social, and for print use on menus, bringing a curated, art-forward tone to communications.

  4. Collateral Design: Designed key touchpoints for the guest experience including coasters, cocktail stirrers, matchbooks, and menus, aligning materials and finishes with the brand’s refined atmosphere.

  5. Web Design: Designed the digital presence for (SUB)Mercer, translating the brand’s identity into an engaging online experience that complements its physical space.

Goal

Create a visual identity that feels directly connected to The Mercer yet stands on its own. The system balances restraint and creativity: a disciplined core logo and typographic framework paired with expressive “SUB” variations and illustration details that work across digital, print, and on-premise experiences.

Client

The Mercer Hotel and (SUB)Mercer are part of BOND Hospitality. The project required a cohesive design language that strengthens the connection between The Mercer’s heritage and its contemporary nightlife offering.
