I'm a creative director, brand designer and illustrator working primarily across hospitality, fashion and culture. For more than twelve years, my work has moved between visual identity, illustration, typography, packaging, print, digital design and the physical details that bring a brand into the real world. Hospitality and art have always been the two constants in my life. I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember, and I feel very lucky that the work I do today brings together the things I have always been drawn to most: design, food, music, fashion, interiors and the way people experience a place. I was born in Izmir and grew up in Istanbul in a home where culture was always a mixture of things rather than one particular influence. A normal day could start with George Benson, move into Buena Vista Social Club in the afternoon, and end somewhere between Fatboy Slim, Andy Williams, David Bowie, Baris Manco and Dr. Dre. The first film I watched on VHS was The Blues Brothers, which I watched twelve times in one week. The first CDs I bought were The Prodigy’s The Fat of the Land, Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell and Queen’s Greatest Hits. I think that mix stayed with me. I never really learned to separate things into neat categories, and I still approach design in much the same way. Something can be elegant and funny at the same time. A very structured identity can sit next to an imperfect hand-drawn illustration. A restaurant can feel established without feeling old. I like those contrasts, and I think a lot of my work lives somewhere between them. My education followed a similarly indirect path. I studied music, percussion, art and restoration before eventually focusing on graphic design, with time spent at Hacettepe University State Conservatory, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Wellington College in England, Palazzo Spinelli in Florence and later Pratt Institute in New York. Music gave me an early understanding of rhythm and composition, while restoration taught me to pay attention to materials, craft and small details. I did not know at the time that any of those things would become part of how I work as a designer, but they did. Hospitality entered my life just as naturally. Most of my summers while I was studying were spent working in restaurants. I started as a busboy and gradually worked my way into management. Later came years of DJing with 2GET4!, nightlife and putting together pop-up events of my own. I would design the posters and invitations, but I was just as interested in what people were drinking, what was playing, how the room felt and whether all of those things belonged together. Eventually I co-founded and ran Union 22 in Istanbul, a restaurant, bar, gallery and retail concept that brought food, art, music, fashion and design into the same space. I designed the identity and much of the physical experience myself, while also being involved in the everyday reality of running a hospitality business. That experience changed the way I thought about design. It taught me that a restaurant identity does not really live in a brand guideline. It lives in someone’s hands and in the room around them. It is the menu they open before dinner, the sign they notice from across the street, the matchbook they put in their pocket, the plate under the food, the embroidery on a napkin, the music, the lighting and the small detail they remember the next morning. I have always liked the idea that you eat with your eyes first. For me, that starts well before the food arrives. When I moved to New York with my wife Gizem and our dog Naomi, the relationship between design and hospitality became an even bigger part of my life and work. New York was home for nearly a decade and shaped the way I think about restaurants, hotels, nightlife and cultural spaces. It is a city where food, fashion, art, architecture and people constantly overlap, and I found myself increasingly working with clients who approached hospitality in that same way. Over the years, I have worked on visual identities and brand experiences for restaurants, hotels, bars and private clubs including The Mercer, The Corner Store, OR’ESH, Cafe Charmant, Zero Bond, Sartiano’s, The Brooklyn Mirage, Pearl Box and Bagatelle, alongside hospitality projects in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, St. Tropez, Saint-Barthélemy, Grenada and elsewhere. My work with &amp;LANA has been an important part of that journey. It has given me the opportunity to work closely with founders, operators, chefs, architects and creative teams from the earliest stages of a concept. Over time, it has become very natural for me to move between helping shape an idea, guiding a team and developing the work myself. On the same project I might be thinking about the overall creative direction in the morning, drawing an illustration in the afternoon and adjusting the technical details of a menu, storefront or piece of packaging later that day. I like being close to the work. I still draw. I care probably too much about the spacing between two letters in a logo. I want to know what paper a menu will be printed on, how a coaster feels in your hand, whether an embroidery will hold a particular line weight, and how a sign will look from the opposite side of the street. Those details may seem small individually, but together they are often what makes a place feel considered. Sometimes that means something restrained and typographic. Sometimes it means illustration, unusual materials, custom objects or a sense of humor. Often it is a combination of all of those things. What matters to me is that the final result feels specific to the place and to the people behind it. Today I am based between Paris and New York and continue to work internationally. In the end, whether I am designing a restaurant, hotel, fashion brand or something entirely different, I am interested in the same thing: building a world around an idea and making every part of it feel like it belongs there. SummaryI was engaged to develop a complete visual identity for The Corner Store, an upscale reinterpretation of the classic American diner, located at the iconic corner of Houston and West Broadway in SoHo, NYC. My role involved the following: Identity Guidelines: Created a cohesive and distinctive visual identity, blending nostalgic charm with modern sophistication. Comprehensive identity guidelines were developed to ensure brand consistency across all applications. Hand-Drawn Illustrations: Designed "Oli," a custom mascot for The Corner Store, which is integrated throughout the brand, from physical collateral to interior design, digital assets, and animations. Oli adds a playful and unique personality to the brand’s overall identity. Website Assets: Designed various illustrative assets for the restaurant's website, ensuring a seamless and engaging online presence. Collateral Design: Developed a wide range of brand collateral, including menus, cocktail stirrers, bottles, soap dispensers, cocktail garnish designs, matchbooks, promotional materials, plates and cups, coasters, business cards, ashtrays, and opening invitations. Each element was meticulously crafted to reflect the upscale yet approachable nature of the brand. Goal Our main goal was to create a visual identity for The Corner Store that feels welcoming and nostalgic while maintaining a sense of sophistication. We wanted every detail—from the logo to the color palette—to reflect the charm of classic New York City, combined with a playful, curated approach to food and drink. The scope of work included: Logo Refinement: Removed “Hotel” from the original wordmark and meticulously refined the typography, addressing spacing, proportions, and balance to enhance clarity and elegance. Applied the same level of detail to the hotel’s signature “M” icon, ensuring both marks work seamlessly across applications. Color System Redesign: Developed an entirely new color palette inspired by the hotel’s interiors. Conducted on-site exploration of the lobby, guest rooms, and other key spaces to create a palette that feels authentically tied to the physical experience of The Mercer. Collateral Redesign: Applied the refreshed identity to a broad range of collateral, from stationery, coasters, and packaging to in-room textiles and amenities. The new system unifies every guest touchpoint with subtle sophistication and elegance. Goal The objective was to modernize The Mercer’s visual identity while honoring its legacy. SummaryI was engaged to develop a complete visual identity for OR’ESH, a modern Mediterranean restaurant in SoHo. The work encompassed bespoke branding elements, a custom vector texture system, refined collateral, and environmental applications throughout the space. The identity was designed to reflect the elemental philosophy of the restaurant, translating fire, light, and charcoal into a cohesive and elevated visual language. My role involved the following: Visual Identity: Designed the full brand system including logo, icon, typography, color palette, and comprehensive identity guidelines. A bespoke vector texture was developed to give the logo and icon a subtle fire-charred, ash-burned quality, reinforcing the restaurant’s elemental concept. Illustrations: Created custom illustrative distorted frames for the menu and key brand applications, adding a tactile and expressive layer that complements the warmth and movement of fire. Collateral Design: Designed high-end branded elements including the plates, menus, embossed leather menu covers, custom plates, embroidered fabric coasters, cocktail stirrers, tote bags, matchbooks, promotional materials, and other refined guest touchpoints. Each element was crafted to elevate the dining experience and align with Michelin-level aspirations. Environmental Design: Designed the exterior banner flag, exterior signage, and vinyl window graphics applied to the street-facing glass. These elements ensure the identity transitions seamlessly from the physical facade into the interior atmosphere. Goal The goal was to create a visual identity that embodies the essence of light and fire. The entire system is rooted in the sensory experience of flame and charcoal cooking, with colors derived from fire, ash, charcoal, and butter. Every element of the identity was designed to feel warm, grounded, and cohesive, forming a direct connection between the wood-fired culinary philosophy and the visual language. Particular emphasis was placed on the menu, as OR’ESH is positioning itself for Michelin recognition. The identity needed to support that ambition through detailed, bespoke collateral elements that elevate the presentation of the cuisine. The objective was to unify fire-charred technique and refined design into one singular, consistent entity, delivering a clear and powerful message to guests through every touchpoint. ClientOR’ESH is a modern Mediterranean restaurant located in SoHo, New York, operated by Catch Hospitality Group. SummaryI was tasked with creating the visual identity for Cafe Charmant, a coastal interpretation of the classic French brasserie located on Bleecker Street in New York's West Village. The creative direction focused on translating the effortless character of French coastal dining into a contemporary visual language that feels elegant, inviting, and distinctly downtown New York. My role involved the following: Visual Identity and Guidelines: Developed a cohesive visual system centered around a bespoke hand-drawn logo, supported by a distinctive typography system, color palette, graphic language, and application guidelines. Deep midnight blue, warm ivory, and sunshine yellow became the foundation of the identity, balancing established sophistication with a brighter, coastal sensibility. Hand-Drawn Illustrations: Created a series of bespoke illustrations, including a French brasserie-inspired flower pot composed of oysters, lemons, and red wine, a hand-drawn interpretation of the storefront, and illustrated variations of the logo. The illustration style was intentionally loose, imperfect, and playful, introducing personality and spontaneity without compromising the more established and elevated character of the brand. Collateral Design: Designed an extensive collection of guest-facing collateral including menus, coasters, ashtrays, matchbooks, dishware, packaging, and stationery. Each application was developed as part of the broader visual system, allowing the identity to carry consistently from small tabletop details to more prominent branded moments throughout the guest experience. Environmental Design: Extended the visual identity into the restaurant's physical presence through neon signage, storefront graphics, window applications, and custom illustrated signage. These elements were designed to give Cafe Charmant a distinctive and recognizable street-level presence within the West Village while connecting the exterior experience directly to the visual world of the brand. Goal The goal was to create a visual identity that captures the familiarity and timelessness of a classic French brasserie without feeling overly traditional or nostalgic. Inspired by the ease and character of coastal French destinations, the identity introduces a lighter and more relaxed sensibility while maintaining the refinement expected from a contemporary New York restaurant. The contrast between a sophisticated midnight blue and ivory foundation, vibrant touches of sunshine yellow, and deliberately imperfect hand-drawn elements became central to the brand's personality. This balance allowed the identity to feel established yet playful, refined without becoming formal, and expressive without losing its sense of sophistication. Across collateral, illustration, and environmental applications, every detail was designed to bring French coastal charm into the context of the West Village and create a world that feels distinctly Cafe Charmant. ClientCafe Charmant is a coastal take on the classic French brasserie from Catch Hospitality Group, located at 340 Bleecker Street in New York's West Village. Hand-Drawn Illustrations: Crafted bespoke hand-drawn illustrations for use in both printed and digital assets, adding a unique touch to the brand's visual elements. Website Assets: Designed various illustrative assets for the restaurant's website, ensuring a seamless and engaging online presence. Social Media Animations: Engaging animations were created to enhance the restaurant's social media marketing efforts, captivating the online audience. Signage Design: Conceptualized and designed the signage to create a memorable physical presence. Goal The primary objective was to craft a luxurious and refined visual identity that perfectly captured the essence of the Italo-New Yorker restaurant in southern France. The elements we created, such as the logo and color palette, were meticulously chosen to evoke an elite ambiance. Additionally, the brand messaging emphasized the values of quality food and a warm, inviting atmosphere characterized by rich cherry colors. The identity balances a strong hospitality presence with carefully considered artistic details, resulting in a visual system that feels sophisticated and timeless while remaining modern in execution. The scope of work included: Visual Identity: Designed the full brand system, including logo, logo mark, typography direction, and color palette. The identity centers around dark wine red and copper tones, creating a rich and elegant atmosphere that reflects a contemporary Asian dining experience with a confident and established presence. Collateral Design: Designed a wide range of branded elements, including custom plates, coasters, cocktail napkins, lighters, menus, hand fans, and additional guest-facing materials, ensuring consistency across all dining touchpoints. Illustrations: Created custom doodle-style illustrations used on menus and coasters. The illustrations introduce a subtle expressive layer that balances the heavier identity while maintaining the overall refined tone of the brand. Environmental Design: Developed selected environmental applications to extend the identity into the physical space, reinforcing a cohesive connection between brand and atmosphere.
